Common questions, clear answers.
Everything you might want to know before your first visit. Don't see your question? Call us at (719) 345-4097.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. Colorado is a direct-access state, so you can come to physical therapy without a referral. However, some insurance plans require a referral for coverage — we verify your specific requirements when you schedule.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition. Most patients are seen 1–2 times per week for 4–8 weeks. Some conditions resolve in just a few sessions; complex or chronic conditions can take 12+ weeks. Your therapist will set clear expectations at your evaluation.
Will physical therapy hurt?
Treatment shouldn't cause sharp pain. Some techniques and exercises may be temporarily uncomfortable, particularly when working on injured or restricted tissues. We always work within your tolerance and adjust based on your feedback.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. Athletic wear works great. For specific body parts, plan to expose that area — shorts for knee or hip work, sleeveless tops for shoulder evaluations, etc.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes — you're welcome to bring a family member, friend, or caregiver to any visit. Some patients find it helpful to have a second set of ears for the initial evaluation.
Is parking available?
Yes. We have free on-site parking directly in front of the clinic, plus additional parking on 8th Street.
What's your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. We understand life happens — call us as soon as possible if something comes up.
Do you treat children?
Yes. We offer pediatric physical and occupational therapy for children with developmental, orthopedic, or other concerns. See our pediatric therapy page for details.
Are you ADA accessible?
Yes. Our clinic is fully ADA accessible, including parking, entrance, treatment rooms, and restrooms.
What if I need a service you don't offer?
While we treat a wide range of conditions, there are some specialized needs we may refer out for. We're happy to help connect you with the right provider if we're not the best fit.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Physical therapy is a qualified medical expense, and we accept HSA and FSA cards.
How is Caring Hands different from a hospital PT department?
We're smaller, more personal, and faster. You see the same therapist every visit (not a rotating staff). Sessions are in private rooms (not an open gym). And we can usually schedule new patients within days, not weeks.
