What to expect

From your first call to your last visit.

A clear, transparent walk-through of what happens at every stage of your rehabilitation journey — so you know exactly what to expect.

Before your visit

Scheduling and intake.

When you call to schedule, our team will ask a few questions about what's going on and verify your insurance benefits. We'll find an evaluation time that works for you — typically within a week, often within a day or two.

You'll arrive 15 minutes before your first appointment to fill out intake paperwork (or complete it ahead of time if we email it). The paperwork covers your medical history, current symptoms, goals, and consent.

Your evaluation

60 minutes, one-on-one.

Your first visit is a 60-minute one-on-one evaluation with your therapist. The first 15 minutes are typically a conversation: your history, your concerns, your goals, what you've already tried.

Then comes the hands-on assessment — movement testing, strength testing, range-of-motion measurement, palpation of painful areas, and specific tests for your particular condition. This part usually takes 20–30 minutes.

The final portion of the visit includes your first treatment — often manual therapy, a few exercises to begin at home, and a clear conversation about your treatment plan: how many visits, how often, and what to expect along the way.

Follow-up visits

The work that creates recovery.

Most patients are seen 1–2 times per week for an initial course of 4–8 weeks. Each session is 45–60 minutes and combines several components:

  • Check-in: How you've been doing since the last visit. What's better, what's still bothering you.
  • Hands-on therapy: Manual techniques to reduce pain and improve mobility.
  • Therapeutic exercise: Targeted strengthening, mobility, and movement re-training — supervised in person.
  • Home program update: New exercises or progressions for you to do between visits.
  • Education: Understanding what's happening with your body and why your treatment is working.
Discharge

Independent again.

The goal of physical therapy is for you to not need physical therapy. As you improve, sessions taper off — and eventually you graduate with a maintenance program designed to protect your gains.

Most patients discharge with:

  • A printed home exercise program to maintain progress
  • Clear "red flag" signs to watch for that would mean returning
  • Activity guidance for return to your sport, work, or hobbies
  • An open door — you can always call back if symptoms return
